Spank Rock
B-More Mayhem
Intro by: Prakash Surapaneni

The duo are often aided and abetted by a crew consisting of Chris “Devlin” Rockswell and battle DJ Ronnie Darko. Along with touring partner and hype man, Pase Rock, a Spank Rock live show, becomes a crazy affair. And as we discovered, this crew also makes for a crazy, albeit difficult, interview. We sent our fierce, beautiful and equally zany rapper friend / interviewer Isis to meet up with the guys not expecting the fall out.
EW: So, what genre do you consider your music to be?
Spank Rock: We make gangbang Music
EW: Gangbang Music?
Spank Rock: That’s ironic, considering we’re sitting here with one women surrounded by three men.
Pase Rock: Three American men.
Ronnie: That would be ironic if she (Isis) were to say it, but there’s no irony in him saying it.
Pase Rock: There is actually.
EW: So you guys make “gangbang music”?
Pase Rock: Yeah, so you down? Psych!
EW: Damn, I should’ve seen that coming.
Ronnie D: The music is really just honest, pure good music, party music. Its not composed or…
Spank Rock: It is composed, what are you talking about?
Ronnie D: I’m saying its not preconceived or supposed to be a certain way, like its really just honest. He’s not saying this sexy word or whatever, he’s just saying what he’s thinking, what’s happened…
Spank Rock/Pase: hahaha….
Ronny: Fuck of than! I’m just trying to help the interview.
EW: Do you wanna pick up from where he left off?
Spank Rock: Yeah, I’ll try to. This interview ain’t gonna be fun no more. I’m gonna have to get all serious now
EW: Good, come on get serious, I’ve got a lot of questions for you.
Spank Rock: Alright, where were we?
EW: Well, brother darkness was saying that your music was honest; its not necessarily trying to be something in matters of genres, but it was a matter of feelings, honesty.
Spank Rock: I think he was doing a really good job of explaining it. You know, we’re just making music about all the thoughts that happen in my head, whether it’s positive or negative. The production is sort of the same; Alex just puts in things that he likes. We’re not trying to jump on any trains or anything like that.
EW: Word. As a female, you know I had some questions about how you portray women and the role women play in your music, but than I did some reading and found out your older sister has played a large role in influencing your music. I can’t characterize you as a womanizer, but what aspect do you think those roles play?
Spank Rock: I make music for parties. And the parties I’m used to going to, especially in Baltimore, have always been sexual. Adolescent, very over the top, like hormone raging parties. So it’s just the male voice at that party. The womanizer aspect, I think that’s what you have when you take those thoughts outside of the party environment, which I don’t. I ain’t saying “bitch you better make my food, my breakfast better be made, my bed better be tucked” or anything like that.
EW: So, there’s definitely a fine line between reality, and just keeping it in the music?
Spank Rock: There’s a fine line between just talking about sex as a funny, exciting topic and than being a dick about it. I don’t think I’m being a dick about it.
EW: I’ve heard worse.
Spank Rock: Me too
EW: So your background in hip hop, and how that plays a role in your music now. How do you feel about that? Do you feel your part of the evolution of hip hop, a new breed all together? Brother darkness, was talking about saving hip hop before the interview started.
Spank Rock: Well see, Darkness, he is a proper man, he is saving hip hop. Spank Rock on the other hand, I can’t go as far as saying I’m doing anything. I don’t know…I just like to rap.
EW: So on the style of music still, I still don’t know what genre of music to call it.
Pase Rock: Its rap! Done and done!
EW: Okay, so this rap, this new style of rap, I’m hearing it at a lot of parties, people are bumping it hard, going wild.
Spank Rock: See this is the thing, if people really understood the history of rap music, they wouldn’t think that what I’m doing is different. We really ain’t doing anything that hasn’t been done before.
Pase Rock: Not at all
EW: Do you know how deep that was?
Spank Rock: I am a fresh motherfucker! I’ll tell you, I’m killing shit right now, I’m just saying, its been done before.
EW: So you have any material coming out?
Pase Rock: Lindsay Lohan
EW: You guys are doing a tune with Lindsay Lohan?
Spank Rock: No, we got a new tune called Lindsay Lohan coming out. Pase Rock, w/ Spank Rock, Ronnie Darko, produced by XXXchange.
EW: Any thing else?
Devlin: Your gonna hear some exclusive material tonight.
Pase Rock: It’s called “Kiss My Black Ass” by Pase Rock
Devlin: Featuring Ronnie Darko and falsetto chorus from Christopher Rockswell (a.k.a. Devlin himself). You might also hear a number called “Race Riot on the Dancefloor” (they did perform this tune, and it was off the hook…. go find it somewhere, your gonna have to hear it to believe it.). Your gonna love it; it’s a BBC exclusive. Actually, it’s more of an inclusive thing.
EW: Alright, so lets try something…I want you to take turns giving me two truths and two lies about each person in the group.
Pase: I’m going first. Donnie Darko is definitely saving hip hop and he likes big titties. He likes jazz, and he walks crooked.
Devlin: The producer of the album, XXXchange, has really long hair. It’s weird and gross. He’s dead, r.i.p buddy. His beats are suck ass, and his wife is under four feet and seven inches tall. That’s four truths.
Spank Rock: Chris Rockswell (Devlin) is a co-star of 90210. He likes apple juice. He met DJ Ronnie Darko at the Paradox, and he had to bail his little brother out of jail at the age of twelve.
EW: Will one of you please tell me what the fuck apple juice is? I know your not talking about juice.
Pase Rock: It’s so dumb, maybe we’ll tell you off the air.
EW: Shit…alright
